IEC@DVC is the first step in a 3-step process to receive a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. university. In Step 1, students complete IEC@DVC’s Intensive English program, which is designed specifically to prepare students for college.*

Inside the classroom, IEC curriculum focuses on the language, writing, and research skills needed for students to succeed in college. Due to IEC@DVC’s close relationship with California Community Colleges (such as Diablo Valley College), IEC students are in close contact with DVC advisors who advise students on general education requirements, choosing the right major, and completing online orientations.

Outside of the classroom, students have access to academic workshops and seminars that prepare them for other aspects of college, such as understanding the university transfer process. Students work closely with IEC’s staff throughout the admissions processes and offer students guidance during their transition to college. While attending IEC, students also have access to organized IEC activities, which include trips to college campuses like UC Davis and UC Berkeley.

Students who successfully complete IEC’s program directly enroll in Diablo Valley College to begin Step 2 of their pathway to a bachelor’s degree. No TOEFL is required and IEC provides full support during the admissions process. Continue to Step 2.

*Students with a high level of English proficiency may enroll in IEC’s Academic Bridge Program, which includes one session at IEC and then transfer to Diablo Valley College.
